Whereas the precise reason for major lymphedema remains to be unknown, it usually happens due to poorly-developed or missing lymph nodes and/or channels within the body. Lymphedema could also be current at birth, develop at the onset of puberty (praecox), or not turn into apparent for a few years into maturity (tarda). In men, decrease-limb major lymphedema is commonest, occurring in one or each legs. Some cases of lymphedema may be associated with different vascular abnormalities.
